Overview

Business owners, managers and anyone who wants to enhance their chances of attaining positive free publicity for themselves, their organisation or business - or who may find themselves having to deal with the press and media in challenging times.

In today's world of social media and extensive news coverage, the effects of negative publicity can be extremely damaging for a company. As a result, managers of virtually any sized organisation, but particularly medium to large ones, need to understand how to deal with and handle the media. It is for this reason that certain management training courses will contain an element of media training for senior managers, directors and company spokespeople.

After completing the course students will have:

  • Gained an understanding of how the press and media work and the stories that will interest them
  • Have increased awareness of the opportunities for publicity in the press and on TV, radio and on-line
  • Be able to identify what makes a good PR opportunity
  • Be able to plan a press and media campaign to promote an event, new service, product etc.
  • Know how to approach the press and media to ensure the maximum possibility of good coverage
  • Understand the pitfalls and possibilities of speaking with journalists
  • Be able to plan for a press or media interview
  • Know how to plan for, and react to, negative publicity
